Peter van Dalen neemt petitie Act Positive in ontvangst
dinsdag 16 november 2010 10:23 Europarlementariër Peter van Dalen (ChristenUnie) heeft in Brussel een petitie voor actie tegen HIV/AIDS -getekend door 100.000 jongeren- in ontvangst genomen. De petitie is opgezet door de campagne Act Positive, een samenwerkingsverband van diverse organisaties zoals Woord en Daad en Tear. Van Dalen is erg ingenomen met de actie van de jongeren: ,,Ik heb zelf bij mijn bezoek aan India eerder dit jaar gesproken met HIV/AIDS-patiënten in dat land. Voor hen is het vrijwel onmogelijk medicijnen te krijgen. Of hun ziekteprobleem wordt geheel ontkend, of de medische kosten zijn zo hoog dat een behandeling onbetaalbaar is. Die beide reacties eisen een tegengeluid en dat doet Act Positive.”
Ook politiek is het nodig aandacht te geven aan de HIV/AIDS problematiek. Van Dalen: ,,Hier in het Europees Parlement hoor je nog al eens dat er gewoon geld gegeven moet worden of dat er veel condooms moeten worden uitgedeeld. Dat is kortzichtig. De achterliggende problemen van armoede, uitbuiting, discriminatie en onterechte angst voor HIV/AIDS-patiënten zijn de echte oorzaak. Daar moet aan gewerkt worden en Act Positive geeft daarvoor een heel goede aanzet.”
In de petitie, die werd aangeboden door ongeveer 250 jongeren, wordt aandacht gevraagd voor de wereldwijde HIV/AIDS problematiek. Belangrijk zijn goede preventie en voorlichting. En wel volgens de drieslag: Abstention (onthouding), Be faithfull (wees trouw) en Condoms (gebruik condooms).
